Steven Schoch works at the intersection of performance, theater, dance, music, choreography, and is reluctant to be pinned down to a single discipline. In his artistic work, the live encounter with the audience is an essential component. In exciting experimental arrangements, he confronts the audience with our contradictory everyday life, prevailing power structures, social mechanisms and automatisms, which he critically questions with surprising performances that sometimes get under the skin. For La Straordinaria he is developing a specially conceived performance that we can look forward to.

From 2015 to 2017 he was a jury member of the Förderpreis Basel-Stadt. In 2014 he received the work contribution of the Canton Appenzell Ausserrhoden. The cantons of St. Gallen and Appenzell Ausserrhoden purchased works by him in 2015 and 2016. In 2017, he received the DanceWeb dance scholarship in Vienna. In 2019 he was nominated for the Performancepreis Schweiz. 2021 he received the Förderpreis Basel-Stadt and 2022 the Christina Spoerri Prize. Steven Schoch has regular solo and group exhibitions and performances in Switzerland and abroad, for example in the exhibition New Swiss Performance Now in Kunsthalle Basel, at the Festival Les Urbaines in Lausanne, Staging Alterity in Shanghai and Aré Festival in Yerevan, Armenia. Most recently he premiered the production “Moontalker” at the Kaserne Basel.
